Ken Design had the opportunity to collaborate with investor Huy on the design of Rice Pub restaurant in America. Inspired by the rich culture of the East, the design of Rice Pub in America showcases a blend of modernity and traditional Vietnamese elements, creating a youthful and elegant atmosphere that appeals to customers' tastes. Investor's Design Vision
The investor aimed to create a restaurant with a modern touch while preserving the essence of Vietnamese heritage. This presented a significant opportunity to bring the warmth and familiarity of Vietnamese culture to the USA through a restaurant setting.
Moreover, the unique and distinctly East Asian architectural elements of the restaurant are expected to attract many international patrons who wish to experience traditional Vietnamese cuisine in an authentically Asian environment without traveling far.
Listening to the investor's vision, KenDesign architects combined traditional Vietnamese culture, particularly Eastern culture, suggesting an East Asian style for this project. This approach retains the traditional, unique aspects of Vietnamese culture while integrating Western cultural refinements.
Design Inspiration for Rice Pub
Rice Pub in the USA was designed with traditional materials, embodying the essence of Vietnam from architecture to interior design. The restaurant specializes in Vietnamese cuisine. The design, based on the renovation of the existing layout, focuses on creating beautiful outdoor (sidewalks) and indoor spaces, executed by the KenDesign team.
From the moment you step in, you’ll be captivated by the characteristic tiled roof and flexible use of distinctive materials such as solid wood, patterned wood, straw, and brick. Bringing Vietnamese cuisine and aesthetics to an international audience is a goal shared by many investors. We take pride in the cultural and culinary values that we and our ancestors have built, preserved, and promoted, establishing our identity in the international business landscape through our cuisine and spaces.
Design Process
Despite the geographical distance, this did not pose any obstacles for us or the investor. Combining both modern and traditional elements in the design is straightforward; however, KenDesign, with its experience and creativity, provided the investor with the most satisfactory design.
Upon entering the restaurant's interior, you will be moved by the perfect recreation of ethnic space through the warm brown tones of wood, featured beautifully in the design of the furniture and sturdy flooring and ceilings. Notably, the faux rustic wooden windows, small decorative flower vases with intricate patterns, and charming lanterns imbue the space with a nostalgic ethnic charm.
The primary design of Rice Pub intertwines traditional styles with Vietnamese colors and details, resulting in a remarkably impressive and standout design. The restaurant's architecture is highlighted by red brick walls, reminiscent of rural Vietnamese houses.
The restaurant’s interior design, though appearing simple and rustic, exudes sophistication and elegance. The architects focused on even the smallest details, such as patterns, handmade carvings, and paint finishes. Carefully chosen colors create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The blend of traditional and modern hues evokes deep and familiar emotions.
Indochine Style in Rice Pub Design
The Indochine style shines through the intricately carved ceiling partitions and unique patterns, combined with creative lighting and space, forming a harmonious picture of two worlds. This design approach creates a compelling attraction within the restaurant space.
Furniture and Lighting
As a dining establishment, the investor placed great emphasis on the usability of the space. The design ensures balanced energy, with natural light being a crucial factor. Therefore, functionality must be logical, ensuring ventilation and excellent light distribution.
Tables are arranged to accommodate groups of 6-8 people, with sufficient space between tables to facilitate interaction and easy movement for staff. The interplay between dynamic and static elements, and the flexible integration of traditional with modern aspects, prevents the design from becoming outdated, allowing continuous improvement based on current needs and trends while maintaining core principles.
Rice Pub's Decorative Details
In this design, decorative details such as paintings of farmers harvesting rice, bamboo and rattan light fixtures, and wooden materials create an authentic Indochine atmosphere. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, delivering a graceful and soft Indochine space, offering a unique sense of balance.
Interior Color Scheme
The interior features neutral, minimalist colors. In contrast, bold and attention-grabbing colors are preferred by the Chinese. To harmonize these styles, the overall design adopts a gentle, elegant color scheme, accented with brightly colored furniture or decorative items to highlight the space.
Use of Natural Materials
The traditional restaurant design uses a rich array of materials, including bamboo and rattan, with impressive and attractive handicrafts. The image of bamboo, familiar to every Vietnamese, is utilized in the design, adding cultural value that resonates with origins.
Greenery and Cultural Elements
The restaurant integrates green spaces creatively, bringing a sense of closeness to nature for diners. Unique decorative elements with Japanese cultural origins, such as lanterns, murals of rural girls, and deep blue hues, add distinctive highlights to the space.
