Overview of the Yi Yin Restaurant Design Project

Located in District 8, Yi Yin Restaurant captivates the eyes of anyone who happens to pass by, thanks to its unique space inspired by distinctive Hong Kong movies. Rather than opting for a purely vintage or classic style, which has become familiar, Yi Yin chose a novel appearance by combining the striking beauty of 90s Hong Kong with a modern, bold flair.

Design Concept of Yi Yin Restaurant

The design concept originated from the owner's love for Hong Kong cuisine. Desiring to offer customers the most complete experience at Yi Yin, the owner thoroughly researched Hong Kong's style, expressing a wish to design a space that is intimate and "soulful," leaving a lasting impression on every visitor. He placed his full trust in the talented architects from KenDesign.

Yi Yin Chinese Restaurant is crafted from the harmonious blend of two seemingly different styles: the familiar, nostalgic essence of Hong Kong, subtly integrated into a modern design language, creating an extremely captivating space. The Chinese design style at Yi Yin goes beyond using typical colors and patterns; it involves a harmonious fusion of interior and decorative elements to create a balanced and artistic space. Architect Ngoc Giau maximized these features to transform the restaurant into a vibrant work of art.

Advantages and Challenges

Advantages

Yi Yin Restaurant is located in an area with convenient traffic and many surrounding residential zones, offering significant potential to attract customers. District 8 is famous for the saying, "In District 8, you won't go hungry at night and you can never lose weight," due to its abundance of famous eateries. Therefore, opening a restaurant in this area is an excellent choice. Additionally, the premises are in good condition, requiring minimal structural renovations, which helps save costs and construction time.

Challenges

Along with the advantages come certain challenges in renovating and designing Yi Yin Restaurant. A major challenge was that the existing style was completely different from the Hong Kong style being aimed for. Transitioning from an old design to a new space rich in Hong Kong character required changing and coordinating many suitable interior details. This included replacing incompatible furniture, selecting and arranging new materials, and ensuring that each element harmonized with the overall theme. To address this issue, architect Ngoc Giau meticulously chose each detail, from colors and materials to decorative elements, to create a cohesive and artistic space.

Interior Space on the First Floor

From the first floor, diners will be thoroughly impressed by Yi Yin's space, as the restaurant's interior is meticulously crafted with unique decorative details. The murals featuring traditional motifs and images of everyday life in China serve as focal points. Finely carved wooden tables and chairs, along with decorative paper fans, contribute to a cozy and artistic atmosphere.

Interior Space on the Second Floor

The main interior at Yi Yin is thoughtfully designed with a sophisticated blend of wood, paper fans, and Hong Kong-themed wallpaper. Wood provides a warm and luxurious feel, paper fans with classic patterns add an artistic touch, while wallpaper featuring characteristic images of old Hong Kong brings a nostalgic and unique vibe to the space. This combination not only enhances aesthetics but also vividly and authentically recreates the atmosphere of a quaint Hong Kong.

Distinctive Hong Kong Nostalgia

Exuding old Hong Kong nostalgia while being full of character, Yi Yin Restaurant emerges charmingly amidst the bustling center of District 8. The beauty of Hong Kong is authentically recreated in the smallest details, bringing a harmonious and pleasant feeling to any visitor. Yi Yin's design is a fusion of Hong Kong memories with modern and youthful elements, creating a highly engaging culinary exploration space.

Impressive Colors and Lighting

Warm tones like red, black, orange, and brown are commonly used in Yi Yin Restaurant's design. The Hong Kong style favors dark and warm tones such as red and yellow. Among them, the alluring dark red tone is chosen as the primary color for the Hong Kong-themed restaurant. Red not only symbolizes wealth and good fortune but also recalls the old Hong Kong.

The lighting system in Yi Yin Restaurant is meticulously designed, avoiding the bright glare of modern spotlights. The space features dim, warm lighting that adds to the mysterious and mystical ambiance. The carefully designed LED lighting creates harmonious light and shadow effects, highlighting key areas within the restaurant. The architect skillfully utilized the light emitted from signs and red lanterns, enhancing Yi Yin's unique atmosphere.

Recreating the Atmosphere of Old Tea Houses, Taverns, and Tailors

Yi Yin's space is designed to recreate old tea houses, taverns, and tailor shops, providing a familiar and cozy experience for diners. Every small detail, from furniture to display cabinets and other decorative items, is carefully selected to create the distinct atmosphere of Hong Kong.

Yi Yin's design cleverly incorporates images of familiar stalls and pushcarts from Hong Kong's markets. This is one of the intriguing features that help recreate the vibrant atmosphere of traditional Hong Kong markets. These elements can be arranged in the restaurant's main areas or serve as focal points in special decorative sections. Using market-style pushcarts not only enriches the interior design but also offers customers an authentic and unique dining experience.

Additionally, the restaurant space is adorned with numerous traditional paintings and decorative patterns, such as street scenes and daily life activities of the old days, enriching the space.
