"Transforming an old house into a luxurious Vietnamese restaurant" is the design concept for the Viet Rice Essence restaurant project. Through its design language, the project tells the story of Vietnamese culinary culture to friends around the world. Let's explore the journey of turning an old house into a Vietnamese culinary restaurant for both local and international customers through the following article.

Current Condition of the Building

Located in a prime spot right in the heart of Hanoi, the existing site is a two-story old house designed in a contemporary style on Phung Hung Street. This bustling street is home to many culinary spots, making it an ideal location for the restaurant's business strategy. With this advantageous location, the owner aims to transform the old house into a Vietnamese restaurant that spreads the essence of Vietnamese cuisine to foreign tourists through its antique-style design. However, the current state of the house has issues such as degraded flooring, unappealing ceilings, outdated wall designs, and a particularly high ceiling on the first floor.

The restaurant aims to serve traditional, rustic Vietnamese dishes but in an elegant style to appeal to a wide range of customers, especially foreigners. To address this challenge, we advised the owner on the most effective plan to utilize the existing site. The restaurant's design is based on the old layout but renovated to create a unique style, bringing a fresh and more attractive space.the Viet Rice Essence restaurant the Viet Rice Essence restaurant

Designing the Transformation of the Old House into a Luxurious Restaurant

KenDesign's team of architects planned and calculated to transform the old space according to the owner's desired direction. The space is infused with a new breath of life, featuring a nostalgic Vietnamese style that subtly evokes traditional Vietnamese images. The interior colors are generally muted and neutral to highlight the natural beauty of the wood.

After surveying the site, KenDesign's architects decided to thoroughly address the current issues, intervening and reconfiguring the space to be more flexible for usage without affecting the overall structural integrity. The house has quite a high ceiling, so the design team came up with the idea of using a steel frame system to reduce the perceived height and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the restaurant space. The renovation project had limitations in altering the layout, requiring tidiness during construction and delicate handling to avoid disturbing the neighbors and the old structure.the Viet Rice Essence restaurant

KenDesign presented the design for the Viet Rice Essence restaurant, where the entire space embodies a new spirit with a classic Vietnamese demeanor. The first step was to renovate the functional use of the space. The ground floor's functionality was divided into smaller areas such as the general dining area, the counter area, and the stair hall. These areas are interconnected by passageways, making the space feel small, lacking light, air circulation, and functional linkage. The solution was to replace all doors with wooden glass ones to optimize light intake and create a more spacious feeling, along with installing LED lighting throughout the space.

The counter area was separated to create a suitable visual point between the dining and kitchen areas. With these changes, the functionality of the ground floor has become more scientific and elegant. The second floor was renovated to expand the dining space for a more comfortable dining experience.

Regarding the overall architectural renovation of the interior and exterior of the restaurant, the exterior walls were embellished with moldings and faux wooden columns to blend with the traditional Vietnamese design style. The walls were painted in a dominant yellow tone, and the balcony area was retained with black wrought iron railings, enhancing the elegant and sophisticated look of the facade.

Admire the "sharp" completion of the Viet Rice Essence restaurant through images showcasing the entire exterior and all interior spaces. The traditional Vietnamese space is a blend of cultural heritage and modernity, creating a sense of familiarity, and antiquity, yet also sophistication and warmth. The interior colors are typically muted and neutral to highlight the natural beauty of the wood. Immerse yourself in the charming design of the old wooden house, seamlessly blending Indochinese influences.

With an Indochinese style, wood was chosen as the primary material for the interior, meeting the criteria for beauty, simplicity, convenience, and warmth. The main color tone of the dining room is a warm light color, with yellow walls and ceiling, combined with light brown wood and accented with black, making the restaurant more attractive.

The entire restaurant floor is tiled with cement tiles, which are very popular on the market. In this restaurant design, the design team created unique miniatures reflecting traditional Vietnamese village culture. With the creative arrangement by the owner and the skilled hands of the craftsmen, they created a luxurious and high-end restaurant floor. The furniture and style of the interior were chosen to be modern wooden pieces, offering both elegance and cost-effectiveness while ensuring durability.
