The style café in Long Bien is one of the projects undertaken by Ken Design from conceptualization to completion. The rustic and old-fashioned ambiance of the café, reminiscent of the 90s era, evokes a sense of nostalgia and attachment for anyone who visits. Join us in this article to explore the Tam An vintage cafe design!
The Design Story
Hiến, the project's investor, is highly experienced and passionate about the F&B industry. He approached us with the vision of designing and constructing a café with a vintage, 90s-style vibe, yet contemporary and relatable to the present.
Hiến had to find a new location within weeks after losing the previous lease. He wanted a new design that stood out while retaining the essence of the old café. He chose a spot at the busy Long Biên intersection, expecting "Tâm An Vintage Café" to serve both passersby and local residents.
During our collaboration, Hien shared his nostalgia. He dreamt of owning a business space where people could feel the beauty and passage of time. He wanted to "bring the street indoors" so customers could experience the past's charm. Additionally, Tâm An needed to align with the A+ café concept.
90s Hanoi Vintage Design Style
Based on Hiến's wishes and our site assessment, we chose the "vintage" style for Tâm An— a distinctly Vietnamese aesthetic. This creative and challenging café style evokes early 90s Vietnam.
Teapots, thermos flasks, cushioned wooden chairs, and large wall paintings characterize this style. Simple, cozy, familiar, yet aesthetically pleasing, Tâm An Vintage Café will stand out amid the bustling cityscape.
Advantages
Tâm An Vintage Café is located on Nguyễn Văn Cừ Street in Long Bien, a busy area. Its street-facing position offers excellent customer accessibility and promotional opportunities. Situated at a major intersection, it benefits from a 10-meter sidewalk space, perfect for outdoor seating. An impressive exterior design can attract customers at first glance. The café's wide frontage with two main doors facilitates easy movement.
Challenges
Despite its advantages, the Tâm An Vintage Café project faced some challenges. The main issue was renovating the existing shophouse, requiring strict legal compliance and permissions. The restroom's inconvenient location complicated the layout of the bar and order area.
Attractive Frontage Space
Tâm An's exterior impresses with its gentle vintage design. The wooden signboard with vertical stripes resembles those in 1980s shops. Lights above the café's name and slogan ensure visibility day and night.
Small wooden tables outside invite customers to enjoy the street atmosphere, reminiscent of old roadside eateries where people gathered to chat. Small potted plants or bougainvillea near the entrance add freshness and comfort.
Interior Design
Tâm An Café features dark green and yellow tones, reminiscent of old Hanoi houses. The simple, understated décor includes wooden furniture, bookshelves, guitars, and old newspapers. The furniture, lights, and appliances are vintage, creating a nostalgic corner of Hanoi's past.
The first floor offers a spacious, warm atmosphere with décor that recalls the rationing and cooperative era. The café's simple yet cozy and comfortable environment successfully captures that nostalgic warmth with a modern twist.
The first floor's highlight is the beverage counter and order area. Despite its small size, KenDesign cleverly designed it with vibrant colors and a modular cabinet-like structure. The narrow space is efficiently used for seating while ensuring smooth movement.
The second floor provides more seating, suitable for groups and smokers. KenDesign meticulously planned the layout for easy movement. The use of armchairs with peacock cushions enhances the vintage vibe while ensuring comfort.
Decorative Touches
The combination of yellow and green creates a close, rustic, and fresh atmosphere. The subtle gray accents enhance the interior details. The contrasting colors create a visual appeal that evokes past memories.
The décor is a standout feature of Tâm An Vintage Café. The architect used vintage wall paintings and decorations to highlight the distinctive beauty. Teapots with national flags and thermos-inspired vases are charming details perfect for check-in photos. The interior uses vintage furniture, creating a nostalgic feel with wooden chairs, stools, peacock cushions, and lamp covers.
Ken Design's plan satisfied the investor, promising a real-life version of the vintage café.
